For such a long time (perhaps longer than you can remember), you’ve given your time and energy to others… to your kids, the family, your workplace, the extraordinary and even the ordinary needs that presented themselves. Some parts of this came naturally; others were required. Either way, you stepped up… and you continue to step up.
Before you've even opened your eyes in the morning, you're already planning and lining things up so that things will be OK today and life will stay afloat. What appointments need to be made? Are the kids all set for school and after school? How many meetings do I have? Ugh, I forgot to add that piece to my last email. What’s going on for dinner? The stream of this is endless and constant. You’re tired even before your feet have hit the floor.
You do this because you care. You care for the wellbeing of your family, that they have a good and safe home, that your kids get to experience new things and have opportunities to grow and develop. You look ahead into their life and want it to be the best, perhaps giving them more than you ever had. You care about your work and your team, keeping projects on point and dealing with the constant changes without grumbling too much. So much of you is left at that table after you leave a long day. You’re invested.
After so many years of feeling like the glue that keeps everything together, though, the weight of stress and overwhelm has stretched to the brink of burnout. Something’s got to give but you’re secretly afraid of stopping. Who would pick up the pieces? Mayhem! It would all fall to pieces and then it would be even more work to put it all back together.
You’re at a crossroad.
On the one hand, you really do care for the people and things in your life. You wouldn't give them up for the world. They’re the reason why you do what you do! You truly care so much.
On the other hand, though, all this giving and caring has left you a bit empty, exhausted, and even perhaps, underneath, a bit angry. Frustrated, wishing the world to JUST STOP so you can catch your breath, you feel spent, trying not to resent. At the end of the day, you feel like there's nothing left for YOU. You know deep in your heart, though, that if you don’t step into your own care zone, they’ll be nothing left to give… and then it will really fall apart!
I totally get you. I've been there. As a single parent of three growing boys and a professional woman in the corporate workplace, I truly understand this frustrated exhaustion and crying heart pain that comes when you when you keep giving and giving so that your world has what it needs but it’s still not enough. There’s always something left to do. But your heart and body is aching for a different reality.

15 years ago, I experienced burnout. I found it difficult to maintain equilibrium and balance in my life. My body started sending me pretty big signals that I needed to stop and shift. It wasn't until my then six year old son showed me I wasn't showing up (when I truly thought I was) that stopped me in my tracks.
Since then, it’s been my primary purpose and passion in life to support other driven, loving, and maxed-out women to come to a better place of equilibrium and balance. I truly understand the amazing difference we make in this world. Life will not fall apart when we lovingly say YES to ourselves. It actually requires it. As I began to heal, the wisdom practices of mindfulness, meditation, and yoga became my foundation. I also consumed and integrated, at every opportunity, the emerging research of neuroscience, emotional intelligence, compassionate living, positive psychology, and HeartMath. All of this offered an immense amount of transformative tools and support that I wish I had when I was running around on fire and fumes. I’m grateful and feel fortunate every day to now share this work with over 70,000 people. I hope to share some of this with you as well. |
