HeartMath® tools and techniques... connecting heart, brain, and body
Some qualities of heart are care, kindness, appreciation, enjoyment, enthusiasm, love, patience, courage, equanimity, gratitude, compassion, tenderness, and understanding. Adding heart to your daily interactions translates into increased care and genuine connection with others and harmonizes the resistance between our own mind and heart. It also supports and promotes better and more sustaining personal health and well-being. Joining your heart with your head has all functions of body-mind-spirit working synchronistically. You can feel in flow even during busy times, knowingly press the pause button before getting entangled in criticisms or harsh views, and tap into intuitive guidance during decision-making. When all systems are aligned, resiliency and clarity naturally arise. Moments are met with more presence and you escape the typical negative physiological and neurological impacts of stress. Feeling steady, grounded, peacefully empowered, energized, and refreshed becomes your norm. |
HeartMath is both systems and science. Founded in 1991 as a non-profit education institute, “the mission of the HeartMath Institute is to help people bring their physical, mental and emotional systems into balanced alignment with their heart’s intuitive guidance. This unfolds the path for becoming heart-empowered individuals who choose the way of love, which they demonstrate through compassionate care for the well-being of themselves, others and Planet Earth.” Their work has been rigorously studied and validated, with over 300 peer-reviewed publications and articles to date.
With HeartMath tools and techniques, you learn to more easily tap into synchronizing with heart energies, creating alignment, flow, and ease which resonates with your entire field environment - inside and outside of your body and mind. Like mindfulness, the practices are simple yet deeply profound and transformative. Research at the HeartMath Institute shows that adding heart to daily activities and connections produces measurable benefits to your own and others’ well-being.

Biofeedback Technology
While it’s not necessary, it can be very helpful to use one of these scientifically-validated biofeedback tools. The Inner Balance is an advanced heart rate monitor, able to measure subtle changes in your heart rhythms. This type of measurement is known as heart rate variability analysis or HRV. The analysis of HRV is a noninvasive measurement that reflects heart-brain interaction and autonomic nervous system dynamics, which are particularly sensitive to changes in your emotional state.
When you experience stressful emotions such as tension, anxiety, irritation, or anger, your heart-rhythm pattern becomes irregular and incoherent, negatively affecting your health, brain function, performance and sense of well-being. When you experience positive emotions such as appreciation, care, joy and love, your heart-rhythm pattern is more ordered and coherent. Connect with me to learn more and personally experiment with this cool technology. |
